The output of the
man
command is
piped through pager program
(usually with the
more or less commands).
The prompt for this pager program appears at the bottom of the screen after each page of output. You can move through the man output with the navigation options for this pager program. If you forget these navigation options, type h at the bottom-of-page prompt for a summary.
You can view preformatted
man
files in the /var/catman/cat1 directory. You should also note that many more cat directories can exist (for example, /var/catman/cat2, /var/catman/cat3, and so forth). These preformatted pages are sometimes called the
cat pages (because they can be viewed with the
cat[1] command). If the manual page for the
man
command is /usr/man/man1/man.1, the most common location for the corresponding preformatted page is /usr/man/cat1/man.1.
